Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure where small incisions are made above and below the eyelid to eliminate excess skin and bring volume back to the area. Blepharoplasty is the same concept as a Facelift. However, they target different parts of the face. With a blepharoplasty procedure, you are tightening the skin around the eyes only. Enhancing and Rejuvenating
About two weeks before the procedure, our Atlanta blepharoplasty patients will be advised to avoid anti-inflammatory medications, nicotine, alcohol, and direct sun exposure.
Dr. Santosa will begin your procedure by gently cleaning all around the eyes, eyelids, upper cheeks, and brow areas. Once you are under general anesthesia, Dr. Santosa will make small incisions that allow her to manipulate the tightness of the skin on the eyelid. This will not hurt due to the anesthetic, and the incisions will be made near the eyelid's natural crease so that it looks as natural as possible. Dr. Santosa will then remove the excess skin and close the incisions with sutures before bandaging them.
Your Health is Important
While you will see immediate improvement, you may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising while your eyelids heal. Most of our Atlanta blepharoplasty patients return to public settings confidently after about two weeks when most of the swelling and bruising have subsided. You will want to do your best to avoid coughing, sneezing, vomiting, straining when using the bathroom, bending over, or picking up heavy items for the first three to four weeks after your procedure. These things can cause a lot of pressure behind the eyes, which can cause incisions to open. Your full results will appear roughly six weeks after your procedure. Effects include tighter skin around the eyes and making you appear younger and well-rested.

Wrinkles and sagging skin occur over time due to the loss of elastin production in the skin, which can be delayed by staying in shape and eating healthy. The scars that blepharoplasty procedures leave fade very well and are made deliberately to blend in with the natural folds of your eyelid. They will be completely unnoticeable, and some patients even report their scars going away entirely after about six months post-procedure.
During your procedure, you are under general anesthesia to ensure you feel no pain during your procedure. You may experience some discomfort during recovery as your incisions heal, but it should not be painful and should not last more than two weeks.
There are a few uncommon risks when it comes to blepharoplasty procedures. These risks include infection, excessive bleeding, nerve damage, decreased or complete loss of vision, or difficulty closing/opening the eyelid. These side effects are not common, and Dr. Santosa will give you the necessary information to prevent these risks during your recovery.
